Microsoft isn’t exactly known for it’s subtlety but this week’s release of Build 10240 of Windows 10 could be an exception. While Microsoft hasn’t yet made the announcement, all indications are that Build 10240 is in fact the RTM version of Windows 10 which would be used by manufacturers to preload Windows 10 in time for the July 29th release date.
For the most part this build is different from earlier releases primarily in polish and the removal of Preview watermarks. Perhaps one of the biggest changes though is the speed of Microsoft’s new browser, Microsoft Edge. This excerpt from the Windows Blog explains how much faster Edge is than Google Chrome.
On WebKit Sunspider, Edge is 112% faster than Chrome
On Google Octane, Edge is 11% faster than Chrome
On Apple JetStream, Edge is 37% faster than Chrome
If you’ve been waiting for RTM to load Windows 10 on your device, you could be out of luck. Microsoft is no longer accepting PCs into the Insider Preview and there is no ISO available to download right now. Insider Preview members on fast and slow rings can get the release now and if you registered for the full version, that should start rolling out on July 29th.
